ABOUT MAYUMI
Hey there! I'm Mayumi "Yumi" Catabijan, a designer and artist-maker enthusiast from the islands of the Philippines who currently calls Dallas, Texas, home. I've finely crafted my storytelling and design skills at Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines Diliman, blending narrative, research, and design to best create for the human experience. Along the way, I started and co-founded M Catabijan Production Designs and AA3 Design Studio, respectively, where I infused my innovative social impact ethos into every creation.
My designs, such as the innovative Mayumi Watch, Box Office, and Kleanr App, draw inspiration from a commitment to making a positive cultural, health, and environmental impact. I'm honored that these designs have received prestigious accolades, including the People's Choice Award at FD23 and a National Runner-Up recognition at the James Dyson Award 2020. We can spark change and create positive transformations within communities through thoughtful and impactful design.
My journey from volunteering with the Better Block Foundation to leading Project ReaDesign in the Philippines has profoundly shaped my design values. I've learned that collaboration and empathy are essential to creating meaningful human experiences.
As I start my new life in Dallas, I'm excited to work together with others, find inspiration from the various cultures in the city, and infuse my values of creativity, empathy, and innovation into its design scene. Beyond design, you'll catch me nurturing my garden, embracing new languages, sharing my artistic explorations on Instagram - @memodarte, and orchestrating lively events like Art in the Park Dallas. I'm excited about the future and can't wait to make something extraordinary with excellent collaborators like you!
